BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Let’s work together.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer member of the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse Historical Society.  Becoming a volunteer is a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

The grounds are open Year-round, 24/7. Our gift shop is open seasonally May – October, subject to volunteer availability.

Most of our volunteers work only one shift a week in the Gift Shop. The shifts currently are:  10 am to 1 pm; 1 pm to 4 pm; 7 days a week.  We are hoping to add a shift of 4 pm to 7 pm at least on the weekends. Some of our volunteers sign up to work as a team with their spouse.  Being a substitute is also an option.

If you would like to be a gift shop volunteer, below are some of the basic responsibilities:

  • Be available to work one 3-hour shift per week. If unable to work your shift, arrange to find a substitute from our Substitute List.  Note:  Other volunteers are always willing to switch shifts.

  • Open or lock up out-buildings depending on shift.

  • Preparing cash drawer at beginning or end of a shift.

  • Operating the cash register in the Gift Shop.

  • Becoming familiar with the history of the Lighthouse.

  • Interacting with visitors and answering their questions.

To prepare you to be a successful volunteer, we will provide you with

  • An opportunity to shadow with another volunteer.

  • Training in gift shop responsibilities.

  • Orientation and documentation to assist in answering visitors’ questions.

If interested, please complete the application form below.  Once we receive your application, we will contact you to set up a time for a discussion and a site tour.

If you prefer not to work in the Gift Shop, we are always looking for volunteers with special talents, such as skills in finance, social media, minor maintenance, gardening, and grant writing. Consider giving us your time and talents, and elaborate on our form.
