MISSION STATEMENT
Since 1827 the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse facility has
continuously served as one of the key historical facilities in
western Jefferson County. The Tibbetts Point Lighthouse
Historical Society was formed in 1988 to preserve, protect and
maintain the lighthouse and fog horn building for the
following purposes:
Research, preserve and disseminate knowledge about
the history and role of the facility.
Educate the public of the role of the facility.
Maintain, improve and build facilities to store certain
artifacts, display donated and collected items, distribute
information and raise preservation funds.
Receive, hold, and manage gifts, grants, donations,
bequests and devices.
The Society envisions the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse site and
related structures as a resource for continued improvements
and additional uses (i.e. restoration of lighthouse keeper’s
houses) to comply with and/or exceed the requirements set
forth in the transfer of ownership from the United States Of
America to the Town of Cape Vincent.
